The primary process of the Coalition 2009 generated three clear effects, caused an openness to citizen participation, discussion of new ideas left center for the construction of a government program, and the generation of new leadership for the progressive Chile.
As agreed on 15 December 2008, the Protocol Party Presidents of the Coalition, was fulfilled an agreement for primary elections to decide the sole candidate of the conglomerate to President of the Republic for the period 2010-2014, ensuring the character of a future government above party and the presidential administration.
Among the most significant topics of this process comprise the Socialist Party (PS) and the Partido por la Democracia (PPD) can not get their flag Jose Miguel Insulza and Ricardo Lagos accepted the challenge to be candidates for the presidential race, figures that ensured the presence of a progressive trend within the Coalition, for his part, Senator José Antonio Gómez (PRSD), took over the complex arena of competing with Senator Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle who have the support of three political parties, raising a option that had the courage to represent the ideas and values of the center left, prompting the need to debate the challenges of Chile's Bicentennial.
