Summits of the Americas

The history of the Summits of the Americas is recent, in 1994 in Miami USA, under President Bill Clinton, met for the first time heads of state and government from 34 countries of the continent and agreed the basis for integration hemisphere and the establishment of a new relationship of cooperation and sustainable development of the Americas, after this first version joined the peaks of Bolivia (1996), Chile (1998), Canada (2001), Mexico (2004), Argentina (2005 ) and Trinidad and Tobago (2009) through which States have taken on commitments for progressive democratic practices, economic integration and greater social justice in the region.
The fact that the continent's leaders to come together to reach understanding on many issues that affect more than 870 million people, is an achievement in itself, especially since the Summit before the conditions were not conducive to hemispheric cooperation and democratic societies.
